The decision comes after shocking videos surfaced online, allegedly showing nannies mistreating toddlers aged two to three years. The police have taken action, identifying five nannies who have been charged under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Allegations include placing toddlers inside a washing machine and using a toilet jet spray to spray water into their mouths. Most of the toddlers affected belong to IT professionals working at Capgemini, raising concerns about the adequacy of safety measures in corporate daycare facilities. Investigations have revealed that the footage was recorded by a former staff member whose friend had recently been dismissed from the daycare.
On June 29, an FIR was registered based on a complaint from a district child protection officer. Police have since inspected the daycare premises and obtained CCTV footage to help in their investigation. Notices have been issued to the five accused nannies, requiring them to appear for questioning.
Authorities are reaching out to the parents of affected children to gather more information about any signs of abuse that may have been observed. Under the Juvenile Justice Act, individuals responsible for a child's welfare can face severe penalties, including imprisonment from three to ten years for acts of cruelty.
