CBI Raids Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar's Property
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its inquiry into suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar by raiding his property in Machhiwara, Ludhiana. This search is part of a larger investigation into allegations of bribery. Bhullar was arrested on October 16 after authorities uncovered a massive cache of assets, including Rs 7.50 crore in cash, gold, luxury watches, and extensive property documents at his Chandigarh residence.
The CBI commenced its search at Bhullar's 55-acre farmhouse and agricultural land in Mand Sherian village early Friday morning. CBI officials meticulously examined documents and inspected the premises, emphasizing their commitment to uncovering the truth. Local reporters were informed by a CBI official that this raid is a continuation of their investigation into the bribery case against Bhullar.
Prior to this raid, the CBI had reported the recovery of 108 liquor bottles and Rs 2.89 lakh in cash from another farmhouse owned by Bhullar in Bondli village, also in Ludhiana. This has led to a separate FIR being registered by Khanna Police under the Excise Act. The investigation is further complicated by the recovery of 17 live cartridges from the same property, prompting additional inquiries.
Bhullar, a 2009-batch IPS officer, stands accused of demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a businessman to settle an FIR that had been lodged against him. The scale of the allegations and the assets recovered paint a troubling picture of corruption within the ranks of the Punjab Police.
This case not only raises questions about individual accountability but also highlights the broader issue of corruption within law enforcement agencies in India. The CBI's ongoing investigation may lead to significant repercussions, and it remains to be seen how this high-profile case will unfold in the coming days.
