Chandigarh Bike Taxi Rider Arrested for Molestation
A shocking incident has unfolded in Chandigarh, where a bike taxi rider was arrested for allegedly molesting a school student during her ride. The girl, traveling from Panchkula to her school in Chandigarh, displayed remarkable courage by recording the incident on her mobile phone. This brave action helped bring attention to the issue of safety for women and students using ride-sharing services.
The incident took place on a Friday morning when the student booked a ride through a reputed cab company’s app. The app displayed a motorcycle with a UP registration number and the photo of the designated rider. However, things took a dark turn during the ride. The accused, identified as Shahnawaz, reportedly began to molest the girl shortly after they set off.
Despite her objections, the rider threatened her and accelerated the motorcycle, which ultimately led to a crash. The girl suffered serious injuries to her legs, while the rider sustained injuries to his arm. It was a chaotic scene when both fell on the road near the Sector 37-38 small chowk. The girl managed to document evidence of the incident by taking photos of the rider and immediately called her family for help.
Her family acted swiftly and rushed her to the nearby Sector-39 police station, where they lodged a complaint. The police promptly registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The girl bravely recounted her experience to the police, detailing how the rider held the motorcycle with one hand while molesting her with the other. Her cries for help went unheard, making this incident even more distressing.
The police quickly apprehended the accused in Manimajra and announced that he would be presented in court. This case highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations and safety measures for ride-sharing services, especially to protect vulnerable passengers like school students. The bravery of the girl in capturing evidence is commendable and serves as a reminder of the importance of speaking out against such crimes.
