Comet Browser Launches for Android Users
In July 2025, Perplexity, an AI-driven startup, introduced its AI-powered browser, Comet, first for desktop PCs. Now, they have expanded their reach by launching the Comet browser for Android users. This move positions Perplexity closer to its goal of becoming a default browser option for smartphones, making the app available for download on the Play Store.
The Comet browser is designed to bring desktop-like features to mobile devices, making it one of the few AI browsers accessible on smartphones. Users will find a chat-like interface that mirrors the desktop version, allowing for a more engaging web experience. This feature will help users find relevant information quickly, making research and online tasks easier.
One standout feature of the Comet browser is its voice mode, enabling users to interact with the AI using voice commands. This functionality means users can ask the Perplexity AI assistant to generate summaries, provide information across tabs, and more, enhancing user convenience and accessibility.
Additionally, the Comet browser comes equipped with an ad-blocker, significantly reducing distractions while users conduct in-depth research or browse the web. This is particularly beneficial in an age where advertisements can often interrupt the flow of information.
While the excitement around the Comet browser for Android is palpable, it’s important to note that, at present, it does not sync browsing history between mobile and desktop versions. However, Beejoli Shah, a spokesperson for Perplexity, has indicated that this feature is on their roadmap for future updates.
Previously, the Comet AI browser was exclusively available to Perplexity Pro users. However, just last month, the company made it widely accessible to all Android users, allowing anyone to download and experience AI browsing. Furthermore, Airtel users in India can access Perplexity Pro, valued at Rs. 17,000, for free within their plan, enabling them to enjoy all advanced features of the Comet browser.
With these developments, Perplexity aims to change the way users interact with the web on their smartphones, making it more intuitive and efficient.
