Delhi Fog Chaos: 118 Flights Cancelled, Travel Disruptions
Dense fog has caused major disruptions in Delhi, particularly at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, where 118 flights were cancelled and 16 diverted on a single day. Visibility dropped to alarming levels, creating challenges not just for air traffic but also for road users and rail services. Commuters faced delays as dense fog enveloped the city, reducing visibility to as low as 50 meters.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert due to the thick fog, warning residents to stay cautious. Travelers are advised to check their flight statuses before heading to the airport, as delays are expected to continue until visibility improves. Ground staff at the airport are actively assisting passengers, ensuring they receive timely information about their flights.
In addition to the chaos in Delhi, a cold wave is gripping other parts of India, including Jharkhand and Jammu. In Jharkhand, temperatures fell below 10 degrees Celsius in at least 13 districts, with Gumla recording a chilling 2.4 degrees. Similarly, Jammu is experiencing a severe cold wave with persistent fog that has disrupted daily life.
Travelers across the country are facing challenges as rail services are also affected. Reports indicate that numerous trains have been delayed due to poor visibility caused by fog. Passengers are encouraged to verify train schedules and be patient as weather conditions can change rapidly.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged everyone to remain updated through official channels. With the winter season in full swing, residents are advised to bundle up and take necessary precautions against the cold. As the fog begins to lift, it is hoped that normal operations will resume soon, allowing travelers to reach their destinations safely.
The IMD forecasts that visibility should gradually improve as the day progresses, bringing some relief to those affected by the fog. For now, vigilance and preparedness are key for anyone traveling in these challenging weather conditions.
