E-commerce in India Hits Rs 1 Trillion in Festive Sales, Led by Non-Metro Demand

India's e-commerce sales soared to Rs 1 trillion (approx. $11.9 billion) during the recent festive season, marking a 20% rise over last year. Non-metro buyers, attracted to premium brands, fueled this growth. Major platforms like Flipkart and Amazon recorded impressive results, with smartphones leading as the highest-selling category, making up 65% of total sales. Quick commerce and D2C brands also experienced significant boosts, with some brands seeing up to 700% growth. October's UPI transactions reached 16.58 billion, reflecting the season's heavy shopping activity across categories like fashion, appliances, and groceries.
