Enhancing Railway Production Standards in India
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently addressed manufacturers at the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition, emphasizing the need for improved production processes in the railway sector. He underscored that the safety of passengers is paramount, and any manufacturers supplying substandard equipment will face severe consequences, including debarment from future contracts.
Vaishnaw urged manufacturers to enhance their manufacturing, material selection, and quality control processes. He made it clear that compliance is not optional; those who fail to improve their standards will be left behind. The Minister also called on the Railway Board to ensure rigorous checks on manufacturers to maintain high-quality standards.
In addition, the Minister highlighted the importance of advancing specifications for components such as signaling systems, track, locomotives, and coaches. He encouraged the adoption of innovative technologies, specifically mentioning the KAVACH system, which has made Indian Railways self-reliant in automatic train protection.
Vaishnaw also announced ambitious plans for dedicated passenger corridors designed for high-speed travel, targeting speeds of 350 km/h with operational speeds of 320 km/h. These developments align with the Government's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, aiming to construct approximately 7,000 km of dedicated routes throughout the country.
Moreover, the Minister showcased the ongoing advancements in Vande Bharat trains, stating that the third version is currently in operation and a fourth version will be launched within 18 months. This new version aims to meet global benchmarks in performance and passenger experience, focusing on enhancements such as improved seating and toilet facilities.
Lastly, Vaishnaw introduced the Amrit Bharat version 3.0, a new train designed for sleeper and general class passengers. This train will utilize push-pull technology, making it suitable for long-distance journeys. With these initiatives, the Indian Railways is poised for transformative growth and a focus on passenger safety and comfort.
