EPFO's Passbook Lite: Simplified Access for Subscribers
In a significant step towards improving the user experience for Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers, Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has announced the launch of a new feature called 'Passbook Lite.' This initiative aims to streamline access to key services by allowing members to log in once and access all relevant information regarding their provident fund accounts.
'Passbook Lite' will enable EPFO members to easily check their passbook details such as contributions, withdrawals, and account balances through the members' portal. This means that users will no longer need to navigate multiple platforms to access this vital information, making the process much more convenient.
The minister emphasized that while 'Passbook Lite' provides a simplified view, members who desire a more detailed graphical representation can still access the traditional Passbook Portal. This dual approach caters to the varying needs of users, ensuring that everyone can find the information they need in a manner that suits them best.
Moreover, the reforms go beyond just the introduction of 'Passbook Lite.' The EPFO is also working to enhance operational efficiency by reducing the approval hierarchy within the organization. Powers previously held by higher officials have now been delegated to Assistant PF Commissioners and subordinate staff, which is expected to speed up processes like PF transfers, settlements, and refunds.
With these changes, the EPFO aims to improve the speed of claim settlements significantly. Earlier this year, the organization increased the auto-settlement limit for claims from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, which has already shown positive results. In the financial year 2024-25, the EPFO processed a remarkable 2.34 crore advance claims through auto-settlement, marking a 161% increase compared to the previous year.
This comprehensive reform initiative reflects the government's commitment to making the EPFO more user-friendly and efficient, ultimately benefiting millions of subscribers across India. By consolidating services and expediting processes, the EPFO is paving the way for a more streamlined and effective management of provident funds, ensuring that members can access their benefits with ease.
