The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has launched an investigation against Google following a complaint by gaming platform WinZO. WinZO alleges Google’s new Play Store policy, effective April 2023, unfairly restricts real-money gaming apps by only allowing daily fantasy sports and rummy games on the platform. WinZO claims this policy harms other legitimate gaming apps by limiting user reach and market access. The CCI will assess whether Google’s policy violates competition laws by giving undue advantage to select apps. This marks another regulatory challenge for Google in India.
