The Indian government is considering exempting life and health insurance policies from GST, as proposed by Bihar's Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary. A group of state ministers supports this idea but wants to ensure that any tax reduction benefits customers, not just insurance companies. Currently, health and life insurance premiums face an 18% GST. The GST Council will develop a mechanism to pass these benefits to policyholders. This proposal is part of broader GST reforms aimed at simplifying tax structures in India. A report is expected by the end of October.
