In December 2023, India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues surpassed ₹1,64,800 crore, marking a 10.3% year-on-year growth, a three-month low from the previous month. Despite a 1.8% dip from November, domestic transactions showed a 13% increase compared to the same period the previous year. The Finance Ministry reported a 12% year-on-year growth in gross GST collection for April-December 2023, totaling ₹14.97 lakh crore. Notably, seven months in 2023 saw collections exceeding ₹1.60 lakh crore. Thirteen states recorded a growth rate of 13%, with Arunachal Pradesh leading at 44%, while Sikkim faced a 13% revenue contraction. The consistent monthly collection above ₹1.6 lakh crore provides fiscal confidence amid global challenges. The government settled ₹40,057 crore to CGST and ₹33,652 crore to SGST from IGST revenues in December 2023.
