Harbhajan Singh Nominated for BCCI AGM Role

13 Sep, 2025

Harbhajan Singh, one of India's most celebrated spin bowlers, is set to take on a new role in cricket administration. Nominated by the Punjab Cricket Association, he will represent the state at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September 28. This meeting is significant as it will involve elections for key positions within the BCCI, including the President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer.

Harbhajan's nomination comes at a pivotal time for Indian cricket. Alongside him, Sourav Ganguly, a former BCCI President and a prominent figure in Indian cricket, has also been nominated by the Cricket Association of Bengal. This AGM provides an essential platform for these cricketing legends to influence the future of the sport in India, especially as they will be part of the decision-making process for the Apex Council and the IPL Governing Council.

Known for his remarkable cricketing achievements, Harbhajan was part of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011. His impressive statistics include 711 international wickets across formats, making him one of the finest off-spinners in the world. With 417 Test wickets and 269 ODI wickets, he has left an indelible mark on the game.

The BCCI AGM will also address the submission of nominations from state associations, with September 12 being the cutoff date. The nomination process will take place from September 20 to 21, and candidates will have until September 23 to withdraw if they choose. This structured approach aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

As Harbhajan steps into this new role, his experience and insights gained from years of playing at the highest levels of cricket are expected to contribute significantly to the discussions at the AGM. His presence, along with other influential figures, is likely to shape the direction of Indian cricket, making this AGM a crucial event for the sport's future in the country.

Overall, Harbhajan Singh's new role is not just a personal achievement but a promising development for Indian cricket, as it signifies the involvement of experienced players in the administration of the game.
