Harbhajan Singh Reacts to Resurfaced Slapgate Video

07 Oct, 2025

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh recently voiced his concerns regarding the resurfacing of the infamous ‘slapgate’ video from the 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL). The video, which features Harbhajan slapping fellow cricketer Sreesanth, was released in a podcast hosted by Michael Clarke with former IPL Chairman Lalit Modi. Harbhajan expressed his disappointment, stating that he did not understand the reason behind making such a private matter public.

In his remarks, Harbhajan questioned the motives of those who chose to share the video, suggesting that it might have been done under the influence of alcohol or simply for attention. He emphasized that he believed it would have been better if the video had never been released. Reflecting on the incident, he stated, “What happened was wrong, and I have already apologised for it.”

Harbhajan’s comments highlight the importance of learning from past mistakes. He acknowledged that his actions during the incident were not appropriate for a sportsman. He also indicated that if he had had a better understanding at the time, he would have handled the situation differently.

The resurfacing of the video drew criticism not only from Harbhajan but also from Sreesanth’s wife, Bhuvneshwari Sreesanth. She took to social media to condemn the act, calling it “fearless and inhuman.” Bhuvneshwari expressed her outrage at the decision to bring up an incident from 2008, questioning the humanity of those involved in sharing it for publicity. She pointed out that both cricketers have moved on from the past and now have families.

This incident raises important questions about accountability and the ethics of sharing sensitive content online. Harbhajan’s plea for respect towards individuals who have grown and changed over the years is a reminder of the need for empathy in today’s digital age. As the cricket community reflects on this incident, it is clear that some moments are best left in the past, allowing individuals to heal and evolve without being reminded of their mistakes.
