Haryana Labour Scam Inquiry: High-Level Committee Formed

02 Jan, 2026

In a significant move, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini of Haryana has established a three-member committee to investigate alleged irregularities within the Labour Department. The decision follows concerns raised by Labour Minister Anil Vij regarding the verification of work slips and the registration of workers. The committee aims to address these issues comprehensively and restore public trust.

The Labour Minister had previously called for an independent investigation, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in the department. However, Saini clarified that he had not received any formal request for such an investigation. This highlights the government's proactive approach to internal concerns and the commitment to address them swiftly.

The spokesperson for the Chief Minister stated that the Labour Department had already initiated its inquiry, gathering reports from 13 districts while awaiting feedback from the remaining nine. This indicates a structured approach to the investigation, although the complete report is still pending.

The allegations primarily concern construction workers and the benefits they receive under various government schemes. Specifically, it has been claimed that many workers might have falsely registered, as the projects they purportedly worked on are not genuine. This casts a shadow over the credibility of the registration process and the benefits disbursed.

To tackle these serious allegations, the committee comprises notable officials, including Pankaj Aggarwal, IAS, Rajiv Rattan, IAS, and Pankaj Nain, IPS. Their collective expertise is expected to shed light on the irregularities committed by various officers and other individuals involved.

Furthermore, the committee will not only investigate but also recommend corrective measures to prevent such incidents in the future. This dual approach of inquiry and preventive recommendations signifies a robust strategy by the Haryana government to enhance governance in the labour sector.

As the committee delves into the matter, a detailed report is anticipated within one month. The findings will likely play a crucial role in reforming the Labour Department and ensuring that workers receive the benefits they are entitled to.
