India's IT data centre capacity grew by 71 MW in the first half of 2024, driven by demand from hyperscalers, BFSI, IT, and other service sectors, according to Savills India.
Total capacity rose 21% year-on-year, reaching 942 MW from 778 MW in H1 2023. Mumbai led with a 54.9% share, followed by Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune. Strong demand is projected, with an estimated need of 400 MW by the end of 2024. Factors like rising internet usage, 5G, AI, and IoT adoption are fueling growth, along with increased investments in data centres due to data localization plans.
