India Bans Online Money Games: New Legislation Passed

The Indian Parliament has passed The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, banning online money games such as fantasy sports and poker. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw labeled these games a 'public health risk,' highlighting addiction issues and the loss of ₹20,000 crore affecting 45 crore people. With strict penalties including imprisonment and heavy fines, the bill aims to curb online betting and gambling activities. This legislation impacts India's $3.8 billion gaming industry and will create a regulatory body for e-sports and social games, marking a significant shift in the gaming landscape.
