India Becomes Second-Largest Gold Buyer in 2024 with 8-Ton Addition

In November 2024, global central banks purchased 53 tonnes of gold, with India adding 8 tonnes to its reserves, according to the World Gold Council. This brought India’s total gold holdings to 876 tonnes, making it the second-largest buyer of the year after Poland, which added 21 tonnes in November and 90 tonnes overall. Other significant buyers included Uzbekistan (9 tonnes), Kazakhstan (5 tonnes), and China (5 tonnes). India’s year-to-date gold purchases reached 73 tonnes, reflecting central banks’ strategy to strengthen reserves during global economic uncertainty.
