India Lowers Handling Charges and Plans to Buy Ships to Reduce Freight Costs

India has cut handling costs for empty containers through the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) and plans to buy five pre-owned ships to reduce freight costs and shipping delays.

The move is expected to boost container capacity by 10-12%. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, after a key meeting with multiple ministries, announced that freight charges, which had surged due to global issues, have already fallen by 20%. With these new measures, costs are anticipated to drop further by 25-30% soon.
