India T20I Squad: Gill Vice-Captain, Pandya Returns

04 Dec, 2025

The Indian cricket team is set to face South Africa in a five-match T20I series, with Shubman Gill named as the vice-captain. This series marks Gill's comeback after he suffered a neck spasm during the first Test against South Africa last month. His injury occurred early in the innings, causing him to retire and miss subsequent matches, including the second Test where India faced a heavy defeat.

Alongside Gill, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya returns to the squad after a two-month recovery period due to a quadricep injury. Pandya last played in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan, where he showcased his exceptional batting skills. His recent performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored an impressive 77 runs off 42 balls, has boosted expectations for his contribution in the upcoming series.

The T20I series promises to be an exciting spectacle, starting on December 9 in Cuttack. The second match will be held in New Chandigarh on December 11, followed by games in Dharamsala on December 14, Lucknow on December 17, and finally in Ahmedabad on December 19. Fans are keen to see how the team performs with key players back in action, especially after a challenging Test series.

India’s T20I squad has largely retained the successful lineup that recently triumphed in Australia. With Suryakumar Yadav leading the team as captain, the blend of youth and experience offers a balanced approach to the series. The inclusion of players like Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel adds depth to the bowling attack, while the batting lineup looks formidable with Gill and Pandya among the key players.

This series is not only crucial for individual players looking to make a mark but also for the team to regain momentum after a tough Test outing. With expectations high, fans are eagerly awaiting the action and hoping for a victorious series against South Africa.
