India vs England T20 World Cup 2026 Semi-Final on March 5 at Wankhede — If Rain Washes Out Match, England Goes to Final, Not India

India secured their spot in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals with their win over the West Indies. The defending champions set up a mouth-watering knockout clash against England — a repeat of the 2024 semi-final. The two teams will square off in the second semi-final on March 5 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, while South Africa take on New Zealand in the first semi-final on March 4 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The winners of the two contests will face off in the summit clash on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India and England last played in the semi-finals of the 2022 and 2024 T20 World Cups — this is their third consecutive meeting at this stage of the tournament. England, who topped Group 2 with three wins, will face India who finished second in Group 1 after losing to South Africa.

The rain question is the biggest talking point among fans. In case of a washout, the ICC has allotted a reserve day the next day — so the India vs England match will move to March 6 if rain intervenes. Reserve day games will start earlier at 3:00 PM IST. Meanwhile, the T20 World Cup final, set for March 8 in Ahmedabad, will shift to March 9 if needed.

If heavy rain causes a total washout over both days, the result will be decided based on the points table. In case of a complete washout, there won't be Super Overs or boundary counts — the team that finished higher in their Super 8 group will automatically advance to the final. India finished second in Group 1 after losing to South Africa. If the match is cancelled, India will be eliminated, while England, who topped Group 2 with a perfect record, will progress to the final.

The Indian team has a strong overall record against England — in 29 T20Is played between the two teams, India has won 17 while England has won 12. In the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024, India delivered an outstanding performance, defeating England by 68 runs. Conversely, in T20 World Cup 2022, England trounced India by 10 wickets. Team India faces the challenge of maintaining its dominant record, while England will enter the field with the intention of avenging their semi-final loss. News24

England's squad includes Philip Salt, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook (captain), Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Jofra Archer, and Adil Rashid. India's squad features Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel.

The weather forecast for Mumbai on March 5 looks promising, with clear skies and no rain expected. The semi-final is expected to bring in massive ad revenue, with 10-second ad slots being sold for premium prices. India's captain Suryakumar Yadav will certainly be hoping for clear skies, as his team — with standout performers like Sanju Samson — deserves to have their moment on the field.
