Indian Stock Market Outlook for March 12

12 Mar, 2026

The Indian stock market is gearing up for a challenging day on March 12, with expectations of a lower opening. This forecast comes on the back of weak global market cues and rising crude oil prices, which are heightening inflation fears among investors. Recent events, including escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly concerning the US-Iran situation, are adding to the cautious sentiment.

On the previous day, the Indian market faced a significant downturn, with the benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, experiencing steep declines. The Nifty 50 fell below the critical level of 23,900, closing significantly lower. Analysts are now cautious about trading, with the Sensex dropping 1,342.27 points, or 1.72%, to close at 76,863.71, and the Nifty 50 settling down 394.75 points, or 1.63%, at 23,866.85.

Market analysts are highlighting that the Sensex has formed a long bearish candle on daily charts, indicating potential further weakness. Shrikant Chouhan from Kotak Securities suggests that as long as the Sensex remains below 77,500, a weak sentiment is likely to continue. He notes that the index may retest the level of 76,300, with further downside risks potentially dragging it to 76,000 or lower.

For the Nifty 50, the bearish trend continues, with analysts indicating that the index may slide below recent swing lows. As per Nagaraj Shetti of HDFC Securities, the index's trend appears to have reversed downwards after a previous bounce back. Immediate resistance levels are seen around 24,050, while 23,700 serves as crucial support.

The Bank Nifty also faced selling pressure, closing down by 2.13%. Analysts suggest that if it moves below 55,400, it could extend its weakness to levels around 54,900. The current market situation suggests investors should maintain caution and avoid aggressive trades until a clearer direction emerges.

In summary, the Indian stock market is facing a volatile environment, and traders are advised to keep a close eye on key support and resistance levels as they navigate this uncertain landscape.
