Indian Tax Authorities Seek $101 Million from Byju's in Insolvency Process

Indian tax authorities are pursuing $101 million in dues from Byju's, once India's largest startup, now facing insolvency.

The revenue department has filed a claim of $18.7 million, while Karnataka's tax department seeks $82.3 million. Byju's, valued at $22 billion in 2022, has struggled with regulatory challenges and a dispute with U.S. lenders over $1 billion in unpaid dues, leading to the insolvency. The company's assets have been frozen, and court-appointed professional Pankaj Srivastava is coordinating the claims process, involving 1,887 creditors totaling over $1.5 billion.
