India’s Strategy: Harmanpreet Stays Confident After Loss

13 Oct, 2025

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, recently spoke about the team’s strategy of fielding five frontline bowlers, especially after facing setbacks in the Women’s World Cup. Despite the loss to Australia, Kaur remains optimistic, stating that this combination has proven successful in the past. She believes that two bad games will not derail their approach moving forward.

In a post-match interview, Kaur praised her openers, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, for giving the team a solid start. However, she expressed disappointment over the team’s failure to capitalize on this momentum, particularly in the final overs of the match. "We could have scored an additional 30-40 runs," she reflected, highlighting the importance of making the most of good batting conditions.

Kaur pointed out that while the team's performance was commendable in the first 40 overs, they struggled in the last 10. She emphasized, “You are not going to be 100% all the time,” underlining the need for resilience and a strong comeback in the next matches. Her focus remains on identifying the positives from the recent game, which can help in future performances.

The captain also acknowledged the contributions of young bowler Sree Charani, who played a crucial role in the match by taking the wicket of Alyssa Healy, a key Australian player. Kaur noted that Charani's consistent performance has been a source of hope for the team, stating, "Whenever she’s there, she can keep giving us breakthroughs." This highlights the potential of young talents in the squad.

As the team gears up for future matches, Kaur’s leadership and strategic insights will be vital. With her confidence in the current lineup, the Indian women’s cricket team is set to work on their execution and aim for a stronger performance in the upcoming games.
