IndiGo Flight Disruptions: Minister's Urgent Call to Action
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu held an important meeting on the recent disruptions faced by IndiGo flights. He emphasized the necessity for the airline to quickly restore normal operations and ensure that airfare does not increase due to these disruptions. This situation has raised concerns among passengers, and Naidu's swift intervention aims to alleviate those worries.
IndiGo, which is India's largest airline, presented data indicating that the recent flight cancellations were primarily due to challenges in crew planning and the implementation of new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms. Seasonal weather conditions also played a role in these disruptions. Despite these explanations, Naidu expressed his disappointment with how IndiGo has managed the situation, stating that the airline had ample time to prepare for the new regulations.
During the meeting, Naidu instructed IndiGo to proactively inform passengers about any potential cancellations well in advance. He also emphasized the importance of providing necessary facilities, such as hotel accommodations, to minimize passenger inconvenience. This proactive approach is crucial in maintaining customer trust and ensuring a smooth travel experience.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been directed to closely monitor IndiGo's operations. This includes real-time assessments and field inspections at major airports across the country. Naidu stressed the need for effective passenger-handling arrangements, especially during delays and cancellations. The oversight will help in identifying gaps and ensuring that passengers receive timely communication regarding their flights.
In addition to monitoring operations, Naidu held discussions with senior officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI). He directed airport directors to maintain continuous vigilance regarding the situation on the ground. With IndiGo operating approximately 2,300 flights daily, the cancellation of over 550 flights on a single day has highlighted the urgency of the situation.
