Injury Scare for Alcaraz at US Open 2025!

30 Aug, 2025

Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning champion of the US Open, created a buzz at the ongoing US Open 2025 when he experienced an injury scare during his third-round match. The Spanish tennis prodigy called for a medical timeout while leading against Luciano Darderi, raising eyebrows about his condition. Alcaraz appeared to be limping slightly, prompting the on-court trainer to check on his upper leg.

At the time of the timeout, Alcaraz was leading 6-2, 5-4, and remarkably returned to the match looking fit. He quickly sealed the second set with a break, demonstrating his resilience. Despite Darderi also needing a medical timeout, Alcaraz dominated the match, winning it decisively with a score of 6-2, 6-4, 6-0.

The 22-year-old Alcaraz shared that he felt some discomfort in his right knee during the match, which initially worried him. "After five, six points, it was gone. I was worried… that’s why I asked for the physio, but it was nothing serious, just for precaution," he explained after the match. His quick recovery seemed to alleviate any concerns among fans and analysts alike.

With this victory, Alcaraz continues his impressive run in the tournament, having not dropped a set yet. He is now preparing for a potential quarterfinal showdown with American player Ben Shelton, who recently advanced after defeating Benjamin Bonzi. The anticipation is high, especially with Alcaraz’s eyes set on possibly facing world number one Jannik Sinner in the final.

This injury scare is not a new occurrence for Alcaraz, as he has faced issues with his upper right leg in the past. Earlier this year, he struggled with injuries and had to withdraw from the Madrid Open due to a right leg issue that also affected his performance in the Barcelona Open final. He is currently managing a left leg injury as well.

As Alcaraz continues to compete, fans and experts alike will be closely monitoring his health and performance, hoping to see him make a deep run in the tournament once again.
