ISL Clubs Demand Clarity on League's Future

17 Oct, 2025

The Indian Super League (ISL) is facing a crucial moment as ten of its clubs have come together to seek clarity from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) regarding the league's future. The clubs have expressed deep disappointment over the delays in the tender process for a new commercial partner, which they believe jeopardizes the operational and logistical aspects of the upcoming season.

In a joint letter directed to AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey and the federation’s executive committee, the clubs, including Chennaiyin FC, Punjab FC, Bengaluru FC, and others, have accused AIFF of a “breach of trust.” They were expecting a transparent and timely process, as promised in previous communications, particularly following directives from the Supreme Court of India.

The Supreme Court had instructed that the tender process be initiated and completed by October 15, 2025. However, as of now, no tender document has been released, and the clubs have received no communication regarding the next steps. This lack of transparency has raised concerns and led to a significant erosion of trust among the clubs and other stakeholders.

The clubs emphasize that their willingness to cooperate and support the overall ecosystem of Indian football should not be taken for granted. The uncertainty surrounding the tender process has made it nearly impossible for clubs to plan financially, secure sponsorships, and commit to player contracts. The current situation could undo years of progress made in professionalizing Indian football.

In their letter, the clubs have formally requested that AIFF clarify the status of the tender process and provide a proposed timeline for its completion. They assert that the ongoing silence from AIFF is deeply disappointing and leaves all stakeholders with no choice but to demand accountability and transparency in governance.

As the situation develops, the future of the ISL and the clubs’ operations remain in limbo. The clubs are hopeful that AIFF will address their concerns promptly, allowing them to plan effectively for the upcoming season and restore faith in the league's administration.
