Kohli's Brother Critiques BCCI for India's Test Decline

26 Nov, 2025

Virat Kohli's brother, Vikas, has voiced serious concerns regarding the performance of the Indian cricket team, particularly in Test matches. As India faces the possibility of a second consecutive home Test series whitewash, Vikas criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and head coach Gautam Gambhir for their handling of the team. His comments came after a disappointing performance in Guwahati, where India struggled to chase a target of 549 runs.

During Kohli's captaincy, India experienced an unprecedented run in Test cricket, remaining unbeaten at home from December 2012 to October 2024. This period was marked by significant victories, including back-to-back Border-Gavaskar series wins in Australia. Vikas pointed out how the current team’s performance starkly contrasts with that golden era, stating that the team, once filled with confidence, now seems to play defensively even in familiar conditions.

On social media, Vikas expressed his frustration at the BCCI's "unnecessary" changes to the team structure, suggesting that these adjustments have led to the decline in performance. He highlighted that rather than leaving the team, senior players like Kohli and Rohit were "removed," which he believes is a significant factor in the team's current struggles.

Vikas emphasized the importance of accountability, indicating that the coaching staff and selectors must acknowledge their role in the team's downfall. He compared India's approach to that of South Africa, which sticks to traditional strategies, including fielding specialist batsmen and bowlers rather than an overloaded team of all-rounders.

Despite his criticism, Vikas expressed hope for a turnaround in India's fortunes, urging for a strong performance in upcoming matches. With the team’s recent history of losing key Test matches, including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the focus now shifts to how the management will respond and what changes will be implemented to restore India’s status in Test cricket.

As fans, players, and analysts alike ponder the future of Indian cricket, one thing is clear: the current situation demands introspection and decisive action to reclaim the team's former glory on the international stage.
