Virat Kohli showcased his exceptional talent and leadership in the IPL 2026 final, leading the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a thrilling victory against the Gujarat Titans. On May 31, in Ahmedabad, Kohli played a crucial role, scoring an unbeaten 75 runs off just 42 balls. His powerful innings came at a time when RCB found itself in a precarious position at 91/4, following the dismissal of key players.

Despite the early setbacks, Kohli's calm and confident approach steered RCB towards defending their IPL title successfully. With this performance, he earned the Player of the Match award, marking his 22nd POTM title, making him the player with the most such awards among Indians. He surpassed Rohit Sharma, who has 21 to his name, solidifying his status as a cricketing icon.

Kohli's achievement is commendable, especially considering his competition. He now shares the second spot in the all-time list with West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who also has 22 POTM awards. The record is held by former RCB teammate AB de Villiers, who has 25. Kohli's journey in IPL has been nothing short of extraordinary, and this milestone is a testament to his skill and perseverance.

The match itself was filled with highs and lows for both teams. RCB won the toss and opted to field first, restricting the Titans to 155 runs. Gujarat struggled early on, losing key wickets quickly. Washington Sundar's resilient knock of 50 off 37 balls was pivotal in stabilizing their innings. However, RCB's response was formidable, with Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer forming a solid opening partnership that set the tone for the chase.

Even after losing quick wickets, Kohli’s partnerships, especially with Tim David, revitalized the RCB innings. With RCB needing 24 runs in the last two overs, Kohli's experience and ability to handle pressure shone through, guiding his team to a comfortable victory with two overs to spare.

Reflecting on the match, Kohli expressed his dreams of standing as a champion, hitting the winning runs. His performance this season has been remarkable, accumulating 675 runs at an impressive strike rate of 165.84, including five half-centuries and one century.

As RCB celebrates this victory, fans and cricket enthusiasts alike are eager to see what Kohli will achieve next in his illustrious career.
