KVS Admission 2026-27: Apply Online Now!

18 Mar, 2026

Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) are preparing to announce their admission process for the academic year 2026–27. Parents can anticipate that the admission notification will be released soon, likely following last year’s timeline in March. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), which manages the central schools across India, will publish the official announcement on their website.

The application process for KVS admissions will be conducted online, requiring parents or guardians to fill out and submit applications electronically. Parents need to visit the official site at kvsonlineadmission.kvs.gov.in to begin the registration process.

Admissions for Class 1 are granted through a lottery system, meaning there are no written tests or interviews involved. Once the lottery concludes and results are declared, selected candidates must submit required documents to their respective Kendriya Vidyalaya along with the admission fee to finalize their enrollment.

To be eligible for admission, a child must be at least 6 years old and below 8 years old as of March 31 of the academic year. Interestingly, a child born on April 1 is also considered eligible. For children with special needs (CWSN), there is an allowance of up to two years of age relaxation.

The online application process begins with parents selecting “New Registration” on the KVS admission portal. After entering the necessary details for both the child and the parents, they will receive a unique Login Code or Registration Number. Following this, parents can log in, select up to three preferred Kendriya Vidyalayas, upload required documents, and submit the application. It is advisable to keep a printout of the final submitted application and the confirmation receipt for future reference.

Class 1 admissions have a structured reservation policy. Out of 40 seats, 10 seats (25%) are reserved under the Right to Education (RTE) category, six seats (15%) are for Scheduled Castes (SC), three seats (7.5%) for Scheduled Tribes (ST), and eleven seats (27%) for OBC Non-Creamy Layer students. Furthermore, a 3% reservation is allocated for Children with Special Needs (CwSN).

In addition to reservations, the admission process further prioritizes applicants based on the service category of their parents, which includes Central Government employees, Armed Forces personnel, State Government employees, and workers from Public Sector Undertakings and autonomous bodies.

The lottery process unfolds in five steps after the registration period concludes. The first lot allocates 10 RTE seats for applicants residing within the school’s vicinity (5 km in urban areas and 8 km in rural areas). The second lot addresses Children with Special Needs across all reservation categories.

Subsequent lots fill remaining seats based on priority category. If there are unfilled reserved seats for SC, ST, or OBC-NCL, a fourth lot addresses these vacancies. Any leftover seats after all lotteries are filled in a fifth lot from lower-priority categories.

Before starting the online application, parents should ensure they have digital (scanned) copies of essential documents ready, including proof of date of birth, residence proof, a recent photograph, category certificates (if applicable), and proof of parents’ service or employment.
