The Reserve Bank of India extended the period for depositing or exchanging Rs 2,000 notes until October 7, 2023. Following this date, the notes will remain legal tender, but individuals will need to visit one of RBI's 19 offices for exchanges. There is no limit on the number of notes that can be credited into bank accounts at these offices, but exchanges are capped at Rs 20,000 per transaction.
Additionally, citizens can send Rs 2,000 notes via India Post to any of the 19 RBI Issue Offices for credit, though this will be subject to government regulations. Public authorities involved in legal or enforcement actions can deposit or exchange these notes at any RBI office without restrictions.
