L&T Chairman's 90-Hour Workweek Controversy and 5 Industry Leaders Who Advocated Long Hours

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Chairman SN Subrahmanyan recently caused a stir by suggesting employees work 90-hour weeks, including Sundays, to stay competitive. His comments, calling for more work and less personal time, led to massive backlash, including from actor Deepika Padukone. However, Subrahmanyan isn’t the first to propose longer work hours in India. Elon Musk pushes for 80-100 hours per week at his companies, while Infosys founder Narayana Murthy supports a 70-hour workweek to boost India’s productivity. Other leaders like Ola’s Bhavish Aggarwal, Zepto’s Aadit Palicha, and Bombay Shaving’s Shantanu Deshpande have made similar statements.
