Maruti Recalls 39,506 Grand Vitara Units
Maruti Suzuki India has announced a recall of 39,506 units of its Grand Vitara vehicle due to a potential issue with the fuel level indicator. This problem could lead to inaccurate readings of the fuel status in some vehicles manufactured between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025. Owners of affected vehicles can expect communication from Maruti Suzuki authorized dealer workshops for free inspections and replacement of the faulty parts.
Despite the recall, Maruti's market performance remains impressive. The company recently reported robust sales figures, with its newly launched Victoris model surpassing the Grand Vitara in unit sales. The Victoris achieved 13,496 unit sales, while the Grand Vitara managed 10,409 units in the same time frame.
In October, Maruti Suzuki registered a total sales increase of 7% compared to the same month last year, with 220,894 units sold against 206,434 units in October 2022. This reflects the brand's strong position in the competitive automotive market, which is crucial for maintaining customer trust even amid product recalls.
The financial health of Maruti Suzuki also appears strong. The company reported a 7% increase in consolidated net profit for the September quarter, reaching Rs 3,293 crore compared to Rs 3,069 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal year. This growth in profitability is supported by a 13% rise in total revenue from operations, amounting to Rs 42,101 crore, compared to Rs 37,203 crore last year.
Furthermore, the total income for the quarter under review increased to Rs 43,014 crore from Rs 38,678 crore the previous year. The earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) also saw a slight increase of 0.4%, totaling Rs 4,434 crore, although the profit margin fell from 11.87% to 10.53% year-on-year.
In summary, while the recall of the Grand Vitara raises some concerns, Maruti Suzuki is managing to maintain strong sales and profitability, indicating resilience and effective management in a challenging market landscape.
