Microsoft Azure Outage: What Went Wrong?

30 Oct, 2025

Microsoft recently faced a major outage that impacted its Azure cloud and 365 services, just hours before the company was set to release its earnings report. Users across the globe reported difficulties in accessing these services, leading to frustration among businesses that depend on Microsoft's platforms. The problems reportedly began around 11:40 a.m. ET, and many users took to social media to express their concerns.

In response to these issues, Microsoft quickly acknowledged the outage on its social media channels. The Azure support team stated, "We’re investigating an issue impacting several Azure services." They informed customers that they may experience difficulties accessing services and assured them that updates would be provided via the Azure status page.

As the situation unfolded, Microsoft’s 365 status account shared that they were also looking into reports of issues affecting Microsoft 365 services and the admin center. The company was working to reroute affected traffic to alternative infrastructure to resolve the problems as soon as possible.

After further investigation, Microsoft released an update indicating that they had identified the issue causing the outage. They suspect that an inadvertent configuration change triggered these disruptions. To mitigate the impact, Microsoft is taking two key actions: blocking all changes to the Azure Front Door (AFD) services and disabling a problematic route that contributed to the outage.

Microsoft has assured its customers that they are working diligently to restore access to the Azure administration portal. They have temporarily redirected users away from the Azure Front Door to address access concerns. However, the company did not provide a specific estimated time for when services would be fully restored.

As Microsoft continues to address the outage, they have committed to updating customers regularly with any new information. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of reliable cloud services and the potential impacts on businesses and users when disruptions occur.
