Modi Flags Off Rail Line in Mizoram

13 Sep, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on an important two-day visit to five northeastern states, including Mizoram, from September 13 to 15. This visit is significant as he is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for various projects in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, railways, roadways, and cultural heritage. The Prime Minister's emphasis on development aims to uplift these regions and address their unique needs.

This visit is particularly noteworthy as it marks Modi’s first trip to Mizoram following the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023. The unrest was triggered by the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, as directed by a high court ruling. The Kuki community, fearing the implications of this status on their reserved jobs and educational opportunities, has expressed significant concerns, leading to heightened tensions.

To ensure the safety and security of the Prime Minister during his visit, over 10,000 personnel from various security forces, including the police, CRPF, BSF, and Assam Rifles, have been deployed across the venues. This large deployment signifies the seriousness with which the government is treating the situation in the region.

During his visit, PM Modi reiterated the importance of unity and cooperation among different communities in Mizoram. He praised Mizo society, stating that it embodies values of sacrifice, courage, and compassion. Modi's message is aimed at fostering a sense of belonging and cooperation among the diverse communities in the northeastern states, promoting peace and development.

As the Prime Minister engages with local leaders and citizens, his visit is expected to be a crucial step toward reconciliation and healing in the region. By addressing the issues head-on and launching development projects, Modi hopes to create a brighter future for the people of Mizoram and neighboring states.

This visit not only highlights the government's commitment to development but also its efforts to acknowledge and address the complex social dynamics at play in northeastern India. As updates continue to unfold, the nation watches closely, eager to see how Modi's initiatives will help bridge divides and foster growth in these vibrant yet challenging areas.
