Mokama's Anant Singh: From Jail to Election Lead

14 Nov, 2025

As the Election Commission of India (ECI) begins counting votes in the Bihar Election 2025, a surprising twist has emerged in Mokama. Posters declaring support for jailed candidate Anant Kumar Singh have appeared, boldly stating, "Jail ka faatak tootega, hamara sher chootega." This phrase signifies hope among his supporters for his return despite his current imprisonment.

Anant Kumar Singh was arrested on November 2, linked to the murder of Dularchand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP). The incident occurred during an election campaign, emphasizing the violent backdrop often surrounding Bihar's political environment. Even while behind bars, Singh seems to maintain significant influence, as initial trends show him leading in the election by 2,716 votes against Rashtriya Janata Dal's (RJD) Veena Devi.

Veena Devi, the wife of former MP Surajbhan Singh, trails Singh, indicating a fierce competition between two prominent figures from the Bhumihaar community. This clash reflects the deep-rooted political legacies and rivalries in this politically significant constituency of Bihar.

In a show of resilience, Anant Kumar Singh took to social media to convey his unwavering faith in the people of Mokama. In a video shared on Facebook, he expressed his trust in their support, stating, "Satyamev Jayate! I have complete faith in the people of Mokama!!" His message resonated with many, reinforcing his strong presence in the political arena despite the serious charges against him.

The situation escalated further with the tragic death of Dularchand Yadav, who died from cardiorespiratory failure due to a gunshot wound during the violent campaign clash. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the volatile nature of political rivalries in the region.

As Mokama participated in the first phase of voting on November 6, the dynamics between Anant Kumar Singh and Veena Devi continue to unfold, turning this election into a significant event in Bihar's political landscape. With both candidates coming from influential backgrounds, the outcome is not just about votes but also about maintaining political legacies that have shaped local governance for years.

As the results are tallied, the eyes of not just Mokama but all of Bihar are on this contentious race, making it a key highlight of the 2025 elections.
