Motherson Group Boosts India's Electronics Manufacturing

06 Jan, 2026

In a remarkable development for India's electronics manufacturing landscape, Samvardhana Motherson has successfully garnered incentives under the Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). Launched in April 2025, this scheme has an impressive budget of ₹22,919 crore aimed at boosting local production of electronic components in the country.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology recently approved 22 proposals, paving the way for investments amounting to ₹418.6 billion. This approval is part of a larger trend, as the government has already sanctioned 46 projects under the ECMS, totaling around ₹54,600 crore. This signifies a strong appetite within the industry for localization and self-sufficiency in electronic manufacturing.

Samvardhana Motherson's expansion is particularly noteworthy as it leverages the company's existing expertise in plastic molding and assembly processes. These skills, which were initially honed in the automotive sector, are now being adapted to meet the demands of consumer electronics, bridging the gap between automotive and electronic component manufacturing.

The push for local manufacturing is not just about economic growth; it also aligns with the government's vision of making India a global hub for electronics. By encouraging domestic companies like Motherson to invest and innovate, the initiative aims to reduce dependence on imports and create a robust supply chain within the country.

This development also reflects the broader trend of multinational companies recognizing India's potential as a manufacturing destination. With a favorable policy environment and increasing investments from both domestic and foreign players, India is poised to become a key player in the global electronics market.

As the electronics sector continues to evolve, the involvement of companies like Samvardhana Motherson is crucial. Their capacity to adapt and innovate will determine how effectively India can capitalize on this opportunity for growth and localization in the electronics industry.
