Heavy rains in Mumbai have caused significant disruptions, with landslides occurring in the Karjat-Lonavala section, leading to the suspension of train services along the busy Mumbai-Pune route. This unfortunate event happened early Monday morning, affecting all three railway lines in the Bhor Ghat section. An official confirmed that landslides near Thakurwadi and between Khandala and Monkey Hill at around 3:05 am prompted Central Railway to cancel, divert, and regulate numerous long-distance trains.

In addition to the train disruption, Mumbai faced a tragic incident when a three-storey chawl collapsed in the Mankhurd area on the night of June 5. This disaster left six people dead and one person injured. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to conduct rescue operations, as one individual is feared trapped under the debris.

The adverse weather has also led to fatalities from falling trees, with an 18-year-old and a senior citizen losing their lives in separate incidents. Civic officials reported that a tree fell on a shop in the Naupada locality, contributing to a growing concern for public safety amid the ongoing heavy rains.

In light of the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) red alert for extreme rainfall, Pune has declared a holiday for all schools in the district on Monday. This precautionary measure aims to protect students and keep them safe from potential hazards. The Pune Municipal Corporation has also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from rivers and streams.

Moreover, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced that schools and colleges in Mumbai would remain closed after an orange alert was issued for heavy rainfall and strong winds. The city's residents are urged to remain cautious and adhere to safety guidelines issued by the authorities.

As Mumbai and Pune grapple with the effects of heavy rains, it is crucial for citizens to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this challenging weather period.
