Mumbai's Dangerous Buildings: Urgent Evacuations Needed
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has flagged 96 old buildings in Mumbai as 'extremely dangerous' ahead of the monsoon. Residents are urged to evacuate for their safety, with over 3,100 people currently living in these buildings. MHADA plans to relocate affected tenants to safer transit camps. Additionally, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has identified 134 other dilapidated buildings. Regular pre-monsoon surveys are conducted to ensure public safety, as many of these buildings are over 70 years old and unfit for habitation during heavy rainfall.
