Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is seeking support for CP Radhakrishnan, the NDA's candidate for the Vice Presidential election set for September 9. Radhakrishnan, currently the Governor of Maharashtra, has a rich political background, having served as a BJP leader and MP. The NDA hopes to secure an unopposed election by reaching out to the opposition. As the electoral college consists of 788 MPs, the NDA holds a majority, increasing Radhakrishnan's chances of becoming the next Vice President. The opposition, INDIA bloc, is yet to announce its candidate for this important position.
