Nitin Gadkari Warns of Production Cuts for Popular SUVs Due to BS7 Norms

Nitin Gadkari, India's Minister of Road Transport, warned car makers to prepare for the upcoming BS7 norms, expected to be similar to Euro 7 standards from 2025. These stricter emissions rules, especially for diesel vehicles, may lead to higher production costs and could cause discontinuation of some popular models. Toyota's Fortuner and Innova Crysta, which currently use a 2.8-litre diesel engine, may be impacted, with newer, smaller engines required to meet the new rules. Fiat and others, including Tata and Jeep, will also face challenges in upgrading their engines to BS7 standards, leading to possible price hikes or model changes.
