Onion Prices Rise to 65-80/kg: Government Offers Discounted Sales

In Delhi, onion prices have surged to a staggering Rs 65-80 per kilogram due to lower supplies. Major retailers like Mother Dairy and online platforms like Bigbasket and Otipy are now selling onions at elevated rates. To ease this burden on consumers, the government has decided to increase the sale of buffer stock onions at a subsidized price of Rs 25 per kilogram.

While the average national retail price stands at Rs 45 per kilogram, in Delhi, it's soaring at Rs 75 per kilogram. This move aims to stabilize prices and provide relief to consumers. The delay in kharif onion sowing, coupled with a slow arrival of the crop, has led to this supply crunch, causing price hikes. The government has also doubled the buffer onion stock to ensure better availability and price control in the coming days.
