PM Modi's Maharashtra Visit: Key Projects Unveiled
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a significant two-day visit to Maharashtra starting on October 8. His itinerary highlights the inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, a major infrastructure project aimed at alleviating congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With an investment of approximately ₹19,650 crores, this airport is set to revolutionize air travel by efficiently handling up to 90 million passengers annually.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport, developed under a Public-Private Partnership, features modern amenities such as an Automated People Mover system for seamless inter-terminal transfers and dedicated storage for Sustainable Aviation Fuel. It is also set to be the first airport in India connected by a Water Taxi, enhancing the region's transportation network.
On October 9, Modi will host UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in Mumbai. This visit aims to strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, focusing on trade, technology, and security. The two leaders will participate in the Global Fintech Fest at the Jio World Centre, where they will deliver keynote addresses and engage with global industry leaders.
In addition to the airport, Modi will inaugurate Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro Line 3, which stretches from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade. This metro line, entirely underground and designed to serve 13 lakh passengers daily, represents a crucial step in transforming urban transport in Mumbai.
The Mumbai Metro Line 3, with 27 stations, is expected to significantly reduce congestion while providing efficient integration with other transport modes, including suburban railways. Furthermore, Modi will launch the "Mumbai One" integrated mobility app, which will streamline public transport services across the city.
Another highlight of his visit is the rollout of the Short-Term Employability Program (STEP), focusing on skill development for youth. This initiative will be implemented across 400 Government ITIs and 150 Government Technical High Schools, offering specialized training to enhance employability in emerging technologies.
Modi’s visit emphasizes the Indian government's commitment to infrastructure development, urban transport solutions, and skill enhancement, ensuring a brighter future for the region. Through these initiatives, Mumbai is poised to strengthen its status as a global city and a hub for innovation.
