Rajat Patidar's Stunning Double Century Debut

17 Oct, 2025

Rajat Patidar has recently made a significant impact on Indian cricket by scoring his maiden double century on his Ranji Trophy debut. Representing Madhya Pradesh, he played brilliantly against Punjab at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore, showcasing his exceptional batting skills. Scoring 200 runs with 26 boundaries, Patidar not only led his team to a first-innings lead but also set the tone for his captaincy in this all-format role.

This remarkable achievement comes after a decade-long journey in first-class cricket, where Patidar has accumulated over 5,200 runs with an impressive average nearing 45. At 32 years old, he has faced challenges in the Indian Test team, particularly after a disappointing debut against England. However, Patidar’s resilience has shone through, especially since the last Ranji Trophy season, where he was the highest run-scorer for Madhya Pradesh.

In the previous season, he scored an impressive 529 runs, including a century and two fifties. His leadership was instrumental in leading Madhya Pradesh to a runner-up finish in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where his aggressive batting style caught the attention of many. In June 2025, he also celebrated a major victory by guiding the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their first title in the IPL.

Patidar's recent performances in the Duleep Trophy have further solidified his reputation. Leading the Central Zone side, he scored four consecutive fifty-plus innings, including two centuries in critical matches. His century in the final against the South Zone was pivotal, securing the championship for the Central Zone after a decade-long wait.

Moreover, Patidar’s captaincy skills were on display during the Irani Cup earlier this month, where he led the Rest of India team, featuring notable players like Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite a strong lineup, the team faced defeat against Vidarbha, but Patidar's leadership and experience continue to inspire many young cricketers across India. His journey from setbacks to triumphs offers a motivational story for aspiring athletes.
