RBI Approves Record ₹2.1 Lakh Crore Dividend to Government for FY24

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved a record dividend of ₹2,10,874 crore to the Government of India for the financial year 2023-24. This massive surplus transfer follows the recommendations of the Bimal Jalan committee and the Economic Capital Framework. Amidst robust economic growth, the RBI increased the contingent risk buffer to 6.50%. In contrast, the previous year’s dividend was ₹87,416 crore. The decision was made during the 608th meeting of the Central Board, chaired by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, with other senior officials in attendance.
