RBI Brings Back 102 Tonnes of Gold from UK in Major Move

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has brought home 102 tonnes of gold from the Bank of England, continuing its efforts to secure more gold domestically.

As of September’s end, India’s total gold reserves stood at 855 tonnes, with 510.5 tonnes now held in India. This follows a larger move to repatriate gold, with 214 tonnes shifted from UK custody since September 2022. The highly confidential operation involved special aircraft and security to prevent leaks. While future shipments aren't ruled out, no major transfers are planned this year.
