The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed a new feature to allow users to verify the recipient's name before sending money through Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) and National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT).
Currently, payment systems like UPI and IMPS provide this verification option, enhancing security for transactions. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das mentioned that this move follows requests for improved safeguards in RTGS and NEFT systems. Users will be able to input the beneficiary's account number and branch IFSC code to view the name, which will help reduce errors and fraud risks
