Rice output may fall by 5% due to uneven rains this year

Due to irregular rainfall in important rice-growing areas like West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, India's rice production is predicted to drop by 5%. Experts at the ICAR-National Rice Research Institute have suggested that farmers in these places try growing rice types that take less time to mature.

This might help reduce the impact of the uncertain rainy season. The shortage of rain has affected the planting and growth of rice crops, making people worried about how much rice will be produced. To make things more challenging, global rice prices might go up. This is because it's expected that there will be 7 million tonnes less rice produced worldwide in FY24, mainly due to El Nino and bad weather conditions.
