Robotic Dogs at Art Basel: Tech Billionaires Reimagined

13 Jan, 2026

At Art Basel Miami Beach, a fascinating installation by digital artist Beeple has captured the attention of art lovers and critics alike. The installation features robotic dogs that resemble some of the most famous tech billionaires, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg. As these animatronic figures roam the fair, they not only produce art but also provoke a range of emotions from visitors.

Each robotic dog, valued at approximately ₹90 lakh, is designed to walk around and generate NFT prints. The prints, intriguingly labeled “Excrement Sample,” come with a warning that they may disgust some viewers while amusing others, particularly art collectors with a penchant for the bizarre. The installation has drawn mixed reactions, with comments ranging from “genuinely terrifying” to “beyond disturbing.”

Beeple, known for his groundbreaking digital art, explains that this work reflects how influential tech leaders shape our perspectives through powerful algorithms. He argues that we increasingly see the world through the eyes of AI and robotics, rather than through traditional artistic expression. “It used to be that we saw the world interpreted through the eyes of artists. Now, figures like Zuckerberg and Musk control much of what we perceive,” he says.

The robotic dogs also engage in a unique act; they take photographs and then squat to release their art prints. This surreal combination of technology and artistry challenges our understanding of creativity in the digital age. Moreover, the installation raises pertinent questions about the future of art and the role of technology in shaping our experiences.

Interestingly, some of the tech billionaires depicted in the artwork were present at the fair, adding another layer to the discourse. Google co-founder Sergey Brin was spotted at the event, although it remains unclear if he viewed Beeple’s provocative display. The presence of these tech icons alongside the artwork only amplifies the conversation around the influence of technology on art and culture.

As we navigate a world increasingly filtered through AI and robotics, Beeple's installation serves as a reminder of the complexities at the intersection of art and technology. Will we embrace this new form of expression or resist it? The ongoing dialogue at events like Art Basel is crucial in shaping our future perceptions.
