The Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) has launched investigations into Hero Electric Vehicles, Okinawa Autotech, and Benling India for allegedly misappropriating Rs 297 crore in government subsidies under the FAME-II scheme. The companies are accused of submitting false claims to receive incentives meant for electric vehicle production. SFIO conducted searches at the companies' premises to gather evidence. The FAME-II program, aimed at promoting electric vehicles, had allocated subsidies to encourage clean energy initiatives, but these violations raise concerns about the integrity of the subsidy distribution process.
