A SEBI study found that 93% of individual traders in the futures and options (F&O) market lost money from FY22 to FY24, with total losses reaching ₹1.8 lakh crore.
On average, nine out of ten traders faced losses of ₹2 lakh each. Notably, 4 lakh traders lost around ₹28 lakh each. Only 1% of traders made profits over ₹1 lakh. The study highlighted that younger traders under 30 are increasingly participating, and 72% of F&O traders are from smaller cities, where losses persist despite high costs.
